1 June 2007 – Common Ground
Romans 14:14
I am conscious of this, and am certain in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself; but for the man in whose opinion it is unclean, for him it is unclean.
It is important for us to find a common ground when we seek acquaintances with people outside the four walls of church; it is fairly significant, as they commonly will try to avoid us if they know we are Christian, it is true, or they will tease us as Jesus Boy, etc. People will be more aware of us than other. As a result, we have to tackle the problem in ourselves; it has no way to improve the point of view of someone in us from good to better with dispute among internal structure.
In my church, there are many people who are still weak in faith, honestly, sometimes we still argue what we should eat and we shouldn’t. Just like what Paul said in the book of Roman 14. How can we make our church grow in salvation if we have not dealt with ourselves? Solomon said that a wise man will avoid dispute and leave strife:
Pro 20:3
It is to a man's honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel.
God, on behalf of Paul, has taught us that we should accept the person who is weak in faith. We should not judge people with their own opinions, he represents the problem with eating of food, some with strong faith, eats meat; some with weak faith, eats only vegetables. Among them should not be any argument or dispute about the food we eat, it is unnecessary for it to become like this. As there is something matters God more than the food we eat, the shirts we wear, and the other amoral acts.
So, if we find ourselves one time being rounded inside this kind of problem, we should be awaken that we should think about one another, we shouldn’t promote dispute, we should be considerate to others who weak by not eating the food that will trample your friend to stumble and fall. Let us try to find a common ground in each, so we will make a difference and bring hope to our land!
